,,,,HOWDY Saddle Pals,,,, Not to much to report this time around. Sadly, the Clowning World lost a dear friend when Lew "Clarabell the Clown" Anderson died at 84 yrs old earlier this month. Anderson was sidekick to "Buffalo Bob" Smith on the Howdy Doody Show. The show began in 1947 when televisions were still somewhat new around the household and lasted until its final episode in 1960. The show became officially titled the Howdy Doody Show in 1949. Anderson wasn't the first of Buffalo Bob's sidekicks but as referred to by Smith, "He was the Best". Other sidekicks included Bob Keeshan who later went on to become known as Captain Kangaroo. Anderson is one I would consider being one of the last few remaining from the television Western Entertainment era. ~Southwest Sam

The Lighthouse Clowns began in 2002 when founder, Cheryl Stem was performing a Vacation Bible School program and the director informed her she would be playing the role of Miss Penelope, a Clown. She really enjoyed playing the character and wanted to learn more about Clowning. She attemded Clown Jam in Branson, Missouri in July of that year, then convinced a couple of friends into going with her to the Show Me Clowns for Jesus conference in February 2003 where Miss Dottie (Flo Green) and O'Nelly (Shelly Green) were born. Sadly, O'Nelly doesn't Clown any longer and is missed by her Lighthouse pals.
It wasn't long after the Alley started, a few kids joined the Ministry and a lady named Becky Brown was brought in as Troupe Nanny to help with the children. In October 2003, Jackie Callahan joined the Ministry and started Clowning as "Daffney the Clown". Not to be outnumbered, Troup Nanny, Becky Brown took the leap into Clowning as "Nurse Beddy Panny". To date, the Lighthouse Clowns have attended 8 conferences and clowned in Wyoming, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Missouri, and their home-state of Arkansas. While in West Virginia, they had a hand in on helping start a Clown Ministry at a church there. This month, a couple of Lighthouse Clowns will be going to India to spread God's word thru Clowning and what an opportunity that will be.

August 25-27th of this year, they will be hosting a Clown Conference of their own featuring 5 workshop sessions, 2 large group sessions and featured Clown, Brenda "Flower" Marshal. $55 includes admission to all workshops, and large groups, all meals and T-shirt. For more info, contact the RNR Bunkhouse Office at; admin@rednoseranch.com The Lighthouse Clowns have grown to 5 adults and 11 kids, some of which attended the Clown Jam-Kids Jam last July and received many compliments on their affiliation with the Lighthouse Clowns and their training. "None of this would be possible without our Lord Jesus Christ", says Jackie Callahan, "We give him all the praise, honor and glory".
